Inspiring People

Catherine Newman

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and colleague Catherine Newman has passed away.

For more than seven years, Catherine brought her energy, determination and compassion to her role at Scottish Fair Trade. She had a remarkable ability to bring people together with kindness, warmth and her own unique spirit.

Catherine dedicated her career to global justice and did so much to strengthen and grow the Fair Trade movement in Scotland. She was a true force for good within Scottish Fair Trade and far beyond.

We will miss Catherine enormously. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and all those who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Our Chair, Charles Sim, said: “Catherine was a core part of the Fair Trade family. She was a dedicated professional, determined to shine a light on the unfairness of current trade. But more than that, she was a wonderful person who cared deeply about others. She will be dearly missed.”

We will share more about how we plan to celebrate Catherine’s life and contribution in the coming weeks.
