In Peru there are many people working in the textile industry. In the 80's people came to Lima to from their rural towns to escape terrorism or poverty. Most of them were women, with little or no education, from extremely poor areas. This is a complex problem which Peruvian society is still facing. For these migrants knitting or making handicrafts, learned through their parents, is largely their sole tool for survival.<\/p>\n
Within Peru, and Lima, there are small businesses which want to generate an impact on society. These businesses want to act as Fair Trade- related enterprises through programmes to support future workers in learning new and modern techniques as well as giving the opportunity for recognition for their work. They also aim to make workers part of a team and through enhancing their work-skills to help change their lives.<\/p>\n
